Halloween is the perfect excuse to dress up — and in an Ace murder mystery, your costume becomes part of the evening. Take on the role of a famous monster, get into character and spend the night questioning, accusing and deceiving the other guests as the mystery unfolds.
You don’t need acting experience or an elaborate costume. Some guests will throw themselves into their roles, others will simply add a few suitably sinister touches. Either way, everyone has a character to play and a reason to get involved.
A Murder Mystery You Can Actually Solve
A good murder mystery should give you a fair chance of solving the crime. In Ace games, important clues are concealed within the information revealed by the characters as the evening unfolds. Listen carefully, question the suspects and piece together what you’ve discovered — the answer is there if you can spot it.
We carefully balance each mystery so the solution isn’t obvious, but it isn’t simply revealed at random either. By the time the accusations are made, everyone has had the opportunity to work out who did it — and why.
How Do Our Halloween Murder Mystery Games Work?
Both games give players a mystery they can genuinely solve, but they do it in two different ways.
A Taste of Transylville Terror – our Classic Range
The clues are woven throughout the game, scattered across different characters’ questions, answers and revelations. Players need to listen to one another, connect information from different parts of the story and use overall deduction to identify the murderer. A ‘big twist’ can be written into these scripts.
Mix-a-Monster – our Replayable Range
Each character’s plot is more self-contained. The murderer can change from game to game, so the clues are cleverly built into that character’s own responses. If a character is guilty, something they reveal during the game will eventually contradict something they have said before. Spot the contradiction and you may have found your monster!
So if you enjoy piecing together clues from a larger unfolding story, choose the Classic Range. If you like spotting inconsistencies and want a mystery that can be played again with a different outcome, try Mix-a-Monster.
The Classic Range usually have 8 suspects and additional optional non-suspects, but the Mix-A- range allows greater variety in the party size – from 4-14.
