Welcome to Ace Murder Mystery Dinner Party Games

Ace Murder Mystery’s mission was to create the best murder mystery party games available. In an attempt to do this we tried to use a combination of different methods, as outlined below, and we believe these distinct aspects of our games go some way to achieving that aim: (in no particular order)

1. Using ‘real’ characters from history and fiction, and basing the murder mystery plots around actual historical eras and events to give people a real sense that they are stepping back in time and ‘becoming’ these recognisable characters from history or fiction, for an evening.
2. We’ve also combined the best and most recognisable events and characters from an era/theme and placed them into the same game, which, whilst taking a few historical liberties, has allowed us to cram the ‘best bits’ of history and some of the most famous characters from each genre, into each storyline.
3. Our murder mysteries are actually ‘solvable’ by the game players, using the clues and scripts provided. Having played and reviewed some other murder mystery dinner games we know that some companies basically just mix up various characters & motives and then place all of the suspect in the vicinity of the crime, before randomly picking one as the killer, so the crime cannot actually be solved by the players. This is fine as far as it goes, as a lot of people just play murder mysteries for the fun and are not overly worried if the plot hangs together, but we do know that a lot of people actually like to be able to try and solve the mystery, at the same time as having fun, so we have tried to do both. As well as being a lot of fun, Ace murder mysteries are solvable for those who wish to pay attention to the detail.
4. We have also tried to pitch the ‘solvability’ of the games at just the right level – so that most of the players feel they could have got it right, but so that only some of them will do so.
5. Possibly the most important aspect is that we’ve added as much fun and entertainment to our games as we can. That means we’ve carefully examined every single question, answer and clue that goes into each of our murder mystery games to see if they are as funny and interesting as possible. So, instead of just establishing a necessary clue in a straightforward way, we have tried to add in as much ‘edginess’ and humorous interaction between the players as possible, often revealing more interesting or embarrassing facts about the characters than they may have intended to reveal.
6. We have tried to make the games as funny as possible and to pitch the humour at several different levels of sophistication, so that there is no over reliance on puns or course humour. Gentle double entendres, innuendo, quick-witted replies and other oblique forms of humour are well employed throughout the games.
7. A combination of 1st and 2nd person questions and answers are used in the character booklets, which offers the players both ease of use, and the freedom to ad-lib when desired.
8. We have tried to include good quality ‘6th sense’ style ‘twists’ into the conclusion of all of our murder mystery games. We won’t release a game unless we feel it has a good quality ending to it. We also won’t release a new murder mystery games unless we feel it’s to the same high standard as the five games above, as we do not wish to dilute our brand with mediocre games.
9. We have spent a long time refining every aspect of our games - with every script being worked upon to the n’th degree. We do not use paid ‘in house’ or contracted writers, which has allowed us to carefully work and refine each game over a long period of time to make it as good as we feel it can possibly be.
10. Good quality artwork and contents. Our booklets, invitations and boxes contain full colour artwork by talented Canadian and British artists, rather than one colour or black and white material. This has meant that our games are more expensive than rival products, but hopefully the customer will appreciate the difference.
11. Optional characters - (who are there to add flexibility to your party numbers) if they are present, the two optional characters in each of our murder mystery games, have parts that are carefully and fully involved in to the plots, with carefully constructed questions and lines that pass seamlessly to others, if the character is not present. We have done this so that these players do not feel irrelevant to the proceedings, or have noticeable inferior parts, which can otherwise leave the host with a casting problem.
12. Customer reviews - having tried to include all of the various aspects above into our games, we have so far been fortunate to receive many wonderful reviews and some much appreciated warm feedback from our customers.
    This has been one of the most rewarding aspects of creating Ace Murder Mystery, even though it has taken a long time to build the company from its inception back in 2003.
